Emeralds

Enhancing the provision of women's cricket across the county

Our Emeralds section of the club is ever expanding with three senior women's teams and a thriving junior female section. We are currently recruiting players aged 13+ for our Emeralds section. We train on a Friday evening (April-September) as well as offering winter training sessions. Our senior games take place on a Sunday throughout the summer months. If you would be interested in joining our fabulous Emerald section, please contact Charlotte at sessaycricketclub@gmail.com

Our
Story

Ladies cricket has been played at Sessay since the 1970s when they had a successful team which included some players who played for England. After the team disbanded in 1999, a girl started to participate at boys training sessions in 2002; a few other girls and mums gradually swelled the numbers. By 2013 Sessay CC had five girls playing at representative level prompting the formation of a new Sessay women’s team which played its first match against York University women on 27th April 2014. The whole squad still U20, adopted the name Emeralds and entered the Northern Women’s League Division 2 for the 2015 season, finishing runners up. Emeralds won promotion to the top division in 2016 and the U15 team lost the Lady Taverners T20 national club competition final in a bowl out. Having firmly established as a presence both locally and nationally, the expansion has been rapid to the extent of fielding teams from U11 to open age in 2023. Currently, Emeralds players range in age from 7-51 years old and numbers have risen to over 80 playing women and girls cricket at Sessay. Many Emeralds players past and current have gone on to represent Yorkshire, the Northern Diamonds and England.
