Sessay 2nds V Pickering 2nds (A) (30/07/11)
Sessay’s second XI batted first at Pickering and were given a good start by John Flintoff and Robbie Fountain. Each played and missed on occasions, but runs came steadily with Fountain especially driving fluently. The partnership was worth 73 when Fountain, looking set for a big score, pulled a long hop from Sam Farrow to square leg and was well caught for 37 (6 fours). John Flintoff (25) followed in Farrow’s next over driving loosely to be caught at the wicket, but Luke Ramsay and Giles Cressey consolidated and made sure that the good work of the openers was not wasted. The partnership was worth 55 when Cressey, trying to force the pace against the nagging Charlie Marwood, was lbw for 23. Ramsay continued to play with a maturity beyond his years, on driving pleasantly and reaching a well merited half century before he was bowled off the last ball of the innings for 62 ((9 fours) as Sessay closed on 198 for 5.
Pickering’s reply began briskly with the hard hitting Kevin Wilson finding the boundary regularly against Liam Carver and James Easton. The score raced to 60 by the 12th over when the introduction of Dan Easton saw Sessay make the breakthrough, the left arm seamer claiming a fine low return catch to dismiss Matthew Allison for 18. Wilson continued to score freely and with support from Tom Sigsworth, Pickering looked to be well set. With the score on 113, Dan Easton claimed the vital wicket of Wilson, caught at the wicket for 63 ( 9 fours and 2 sixes), and when Liam Carver yorked Neil Cowton for 1, and Luke Ramsay picked up the wicket of Ryan Boyes for 3, Sessay were back in contention with Pickering on 125 for 4. Sigsworth continued to impress, however and with support from the experienced Charlie Marwood, Pickering went past 150 and seemed to be regaining the upper hand. The return into the attack of James Easton turned the game back to Sessay as Sigsworth was caught at cover for 42, and next ball Arthur Devine was bowled to leave the hosts on 153 for 6. Liam Carver’s pace was too much for Stephen Temple and when James Easton bowled Marwood for 15, Sessay scented victory. Another wicket for each for the pacemen wrapped up the win for Sessay victory with almost 5 overs to spare, with Pickering losing their last 6 wickets for 5 runs in the space of 28 deliveries.
Sessay’s victory keeps them in 2nd place in the division and still on course for promotion.

Sessay 2nds V Heworth 2nds (A) (23/07/11)
In a Division Four fixture, Sessay batted first at Heworth on a damp pitch, and lost a wicket in the first over when Robbie Fountain was stumped for a duck. Fellow opener Darren Atkinson was caught for 19 and it was left to John Flintoff to anchor the innings with an unbeaten 76, support coming from Luke Ramsay with 19 and Giles Cressey with 28 before Sessay closed on 166 for 8. Heworth’s reply got into difficulties once Karl Carver was introduced into the attack, the young slow left armer taking three quick wickets as the hosts slipped from 24 without loss to 32 for 3, and from then onwards the real question was whether Sessay could force a victory. Wickets continued to fall in threes as Heworth then went from 70 for 3 to 72 for 6, including the loss of opener Joel Johnson, run out for 44. Lee Bradshaw and William Rymer lifted the score past three figures before Heworth lost their next batch of wickets with James Easton striking twice, but Sessay were unable to force the win as Heworth hung on to a draw at 112 for 9. Skipper Bradshaw remained 20 not out, whilst Karl Carver’s return of 4 for 19 was the pick of a good all round bowling performance by the visitors.
