About Us

We are a village club, based in rural North Yorkshire, situated 2 miles to the west of the A19 between the market towns of Thirsk and Easingwold, and as the crow flies, 5 miles to the east of the famous Kilburn White Horse, which is clearly visible from our ground and features prominently on the club emblem. The club was formed in the 1850's and until 1973, played on a picturesque little ground just over the main East Coast railway line, but moved to it's present location in the centre of the village in 1974.

The first XI plays in the Premier Division of the York and District Senior Cricket League, arguably the third strongest league in the county behind the Yorkshire and Bradford Leagues, whilst the second team competes in Division Four of the same league. Three years ago a third XI was formed and they play in the Nidderdale Amateur Cricket League Division 7. In addition the club competes in several evening cups, the Pilmoor Evening Cricket League, and of course the National Village Knockout.

The club supports a strong junior section, with teams competing in leagues at Under 17, Under 15, Under 13 and Under 12 levels, with plans to enter the Under 9's in league competition from 2012. In addition the club fields an Intermediate team and the Ladies section, dormant since the late 1990's, will hopefully be resurrected during the next few months.

It is in the Village Knock Out competition that the club had it's finest hour as recently as September 2010, becoming National Village Champions with a 7 wicket victory over Shipton under Wychwood at Lord's Cricket Ground.

The club has never won the York Senior League Premier Division Title, but achieved a second place finish in 2009 as well as winning the Hunters Premier Cup, the league's top cup competition. Previous to this the clubs best achievements came with a visit to Lords in 1976 for the final of the National Village Knockout, losing to Troon by 18 runs, and the winning of the York Senior League First Division championship (prior to the introduction of a Premier Division) in 1980 and 1983.

The club extends a warm welcome to everyone and newcomers can feel safe in the knowledge that Sessay Cricket Club is Clubmark accredited, meeting the high standards of care and administration as set out by the ECB.
